A disinfectant dispenser in standard clinical design dispenses the holy water of our present in portioned cans when a metal lever is operated. Fear, desperation and delusion are quickly soothed with a seemingly uncorruptible feeling of security. (…) Accountability drips tacitly into the hands of users. Such a rite now follows every touch and precedes the next one. Thanks to alcohol (for disinfecting), glycerine (for moisturizing) and polymer (for thickening), it is able to kill 99.99 percent of all germs with a careful lubrication procedure and makes us feel 100 percent safe on foreign territory. What would be, if with that dosed donation not only the hands could be covered protectively, but the whole body, even every conceivable area? Scher’s safety apparatuses draw on their inability to guarantee absolute safety – their leaks are potentially everywhere. This discretionary power empowers us to become subjects and accomplices to our own surveillance: a role-play under lawless control that incites risk-taking and unknowing consent. – Elisa R. Linn
